4th Sunday: The Parable of the Lost Son

In today’s Gospel comic, the Lost Son is likened to those who return to Mass after being away for so long. Like the faithful brother, we too might be faithful, regular churchgoers, active in our youth groups or local parish. But just like the brother, we too might fall into jealousy and become indignant at the idea of someone seemingly less faithful being treated as special. But we are called to take on an attitude like the compassionate father, rejoicing whenever one of our brothers or sisters returns.

REFLECT
1. Why did the father run to meet the son and forgive him so quickly?
2. Why did Jesus tell this Parable? What was he trying to teach his disicples?
3. When someone who seems less faithufl than I comes back to my church or community, how do I respond?
Am I welcoming? or do I grumble when they’re treated special?

Did you know? ‘Prodigal’ means ‘wastefully extravagant’, used to describe someone who spends excessively

PRAY
God of compassion,
you await the sinner’s return
and spread a feast to welcome home the lost.
Save us from the temptations
that lead us away from you,
and draw us back by the constancy of your love,
that we may take our place in your household
and gladly share our inheritance with others.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

ACT Come before a crucifix and reflect on how God the Father runs to meet and welcome you when we seek forgiveness
