The Emmanuel Community is an Association of Christ’s Faithful comprising Catholics in all states of life: lay people, both married and single; men and women consecrated in celibacy; and priests. Today, there are 7,000 committed members of the community in 65 different countries on 5 continents. These include 150 priests, 80 seminarians, 12 permanent deacons, 170 sisters and brothers consecrated in celibacy. A layman, Pierre Goursat (+25 March 1991) founded the community in Paris in 1976. In 1992, the Vatican officially recognised the community statutes.

Members share the desire to live out, in a radical way, a call to holiness, which is their vocation as baptised Catholics. They share the certitude that God is present in the life of every person and that He loves us. The mission of the Community is to reveal to every man and woman the presence of the God of Love in their lives, Jesus Christ, who is Emmanuel, “God with us”.

The Emmanuel Community works with youth, with married and engaged couples and families (Love and Truth), with people in the world of work (Presence and Witness) and with artists (Magnificat). Approximately 150,000 people participate every year in the activities of the Community. 23 parishes have been confided to its care in France, Belgium, Austria, Germany & the Netherlands. The Community also conducts 5 schools of Formation for Evangelisation, and conducts a Masters programme in the Theology of Evangelisation in Rome.
