The Australian Catholic Youth Festival will be a wonderful few days for the young people of Australia, and for all of us. I'm inviting you to join with me, the Bishops of Australia, our priests and our young people to the closing Mass for ACYF.

Not since World Youth Day in 2008 when Sydney welcomed hundreds of thousands of pilgrims to a week-long youth festival with the then-pontiff, Pope Benedict XVI, will we have seen so many Catholics come together to celebrate Mass.

Dempsey Awards Recipients an "impressive group" - Archbishop Fisher

During the Solemn Mass at St Mary's Cathedral on Sunday, 16 July, Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP presented the inaugural Dempsey Medal for outstanding service in the Archdiocese of Sydney to twenty medal recipients from across Sydney.

The Dempsey Medal is named in memory of James Dempsey, an Irish Catholic convict who was transported to Sydney in 1802 and later pardoned. As a stonemason, he oversaw the building of Sydney's first bridge, barracks and hospital, all near the site of St Mary's Cathedral.

Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP delivered the Annual Plunkett Lecture to a capacity-filled lecture theatre at the Darlinghurst Campus of the Australian Catholic University, located in the grounds of St Vincent's Hospital.

Founded in 1992, the Plunkett Centre for Ethics is named after John Hubert Plunkett (1802-1869), the first Catholic Solicitor General and Attorney General of New South Wales. The Centre is devoted to the study and teaching of ethics in clinical practice and biomedical research.

With seven months to go, online registration officially opened this morning for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) in Sydney from 7-9 December 2017.

Among the first to register were a number of the Bishops of Australia while gathered in Sydney for their biannual Plenary Meeting.

The Festival registration process can be completed on mobile or tablet devices. Alternatively, groups and individuals can register online at, www.acyf.org.au

On Monday evening the 24th of April Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP will celebrate the ANZAC Eve Mass at St Mary's Cathedral with Auxiliary Bishops, Terry Brady and Richard Umbers, and concelebrating clergy including several chaplains to the services.

The Governor of NSW, Members of Parliament, Representatives from the Judiciary, Defence Force Personnel, Representatives from the RSL, Veterans and friends will be in attendance and all are welcome to join. The Mass will commence at 5:30pm.

On Tuesday, 28 March, Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP appeared before a NSW Legislative Council Select Committee looking in to human trafficking.

The inquiry was tasked with inquiring into and reporting on human trafficking in NSW, including its prevalence and practical measures which might be put into place in NSW which would address human trafficking.
